| In addition to the actual Rushbearing procession and Morris Dancing, there is a wide range of events taking place for you to enjoy over the Rushbearing weekend.
Friday night sees the traditional pre-Rushbearing get-together at The Works in Hollins Mill Lane, Sowerby Bridge.
On Saturday the focus of the entertainment is around the Sowerby Bridge Market in its central location on Wharf Street. The hugely popular Rushbearing charity and crafts market will be entertained with performances by the Friendly Brass Band.
Leading the procession through Sowerby Bridge will be the internationally acclaimed street musicians The Peace Artistes. There will be music and Morris Dancing displays at the Market Place, Tower Hill, the new Jubilee Refreshment Rooms at the Railway Station, Hollins Mill Lane and finally back at the Canal basin.
There will be a Bouncy Castle for the children, and the weekend would not be complete without a visit to the ever-popular Norland Scarecrow Trail. On the Saturday night listen to the live music at many venues in and around Sowerby Bridge – for more details see their advertisements in the Festival programme.
Sunday morning begins with the traditional Rushbearing Festival service at St. Peter’s Church, Sowerby and during the afternoon Ripponden holds its annual Village Fair with the weekend Flower Festival and musical entertainment.
The weekend draws to a close as the Rushbearing procession, lead by a New Orleans Jazz Band, arrives in Ripponden and at the end of the afternoon the Songs of Praise service takes place in St. Bartholomew’s Church. |
